3 Wheeler Buggies

A three wheel pushchairs-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain and provides an easy ride for your infant. They are also simpler to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler especially those equipped with slings made of fabric or modular seat units, which are positioned tightly in the frame and deliver the most efficient shape and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are very stable, and this makes them an excellent choice for off-road walking (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). They typically have large front tires that can withstand bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheel on the front to provide additional stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3 wheel twin stroller-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than the 4-wheeled versions and, therefore, could fall more easily. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs have an ideal geometry and design to ensure they are solid in all conditions. They should be able of turning on a dime and be easy to steer with just one hand, and feature a 360o swivelling front wheel that makes them great for maneuvering and navigating difficult terrain.

Look for models with pneumatic tyres. These are made to work on tracks that are not paved, and are able to withstand rocks, mud, gravel, etc. Many all-terrain buggies come with an swivelling wheel at the front that can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain.

A 3 wheeler buggy-wheel pram is also an excellent option for runners or those who like to walk quickly and uphill, particularly when you plan to attach a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a wide-facing seat that reclines flat and comes with a new 5-point harness as well as storage space for all your kit (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It's compact, lightweight and suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or car seat. It can also be used for jogging with a light pace, but is not intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle difficult terrain then you want one with large wheels. These are made to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks easily, while still providing smooth riding. They are also ideal for jogging, as they have built-in suspension and are able to climb up and down kerbs. However, the drawback is that they are quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). The 3-wheel buggy comes with 16 rear wheels with an swivel wheel lockable to the front, so it's very manoeuvrable. It comes with tyres filled with air that need to be pumped up every now and then. It can accommodate children until the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat, and she found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old on board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It has an adjustable handlebar, a high-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection as well as an extremely high-quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs up and down and fits in a the boot of a car that is small. It can be used as a stroller with baby carriers or toddlers.

Fabric slings are set within the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design delivers a lower center of gravity and a perfect height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you should never overestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this as a new parent!)

Seating

There are a variety of options for seating in three wheelers. For babies, there is the option to use the included carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a comfortable and cozy lying flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can use the parent or world-facing seat unit that is roomy and padded, and comes with adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to recline fully, but they can be lowered down to the lowest setting. This should allow your child plenty of headroom and space.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which has the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame, rather than sitting on top as the modular seat. This provides a lower center of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath loved the way that this style of seat negotiated these obstacles.

This type of buggy has a large basket and other beneficial features like an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal and some innovative visibility lights which can be put on the front of the passengers to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is much more sturdy and can be moved with one hand. It's also more suitable for difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler.

A top-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It should also be able to take a carrycot and car seat and you can use it right from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers have noticed that the 3-wheeler frame won't pass through all doors of their homes or small car booties - make sure to check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded before purchasing if you're worried about space.

It's worth considering cheap 3 wheel buggy-wheelers that can accommodate 2 (or even 3!) This is the most suitable option for your child's future and will help you save money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the top of them and can be used as a single seat from day dot and later converts into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child an easier ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also mentioned that the grippy tyres of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to navigate the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres can sometimes prove difficult to maintain their inflation and will need to be filled regularly. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to make sure that you have a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are out and about with your buggy.

PU tyres can be found on pushchairs as they are a cheaper option than tyres filled with air, but they are equally durable. You can recognise PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft texture. They also glide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

You can usually tell the distinction between air-filled and PU tyres by running your hand over each one, if it feels firm, then it's made of rubber, when it slides, it's a PU. You can also verify that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres on an even, clean surface They'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly into their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam can expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable, as it loses its springy feel. You'll also find that these kinds of tyres can often be noisy as they generate lots of noise when you turn and make your way around town.
