Baby bedside crib Cot

A baby Bedside Travel Crib cot (or next-to-me crib) is a bassinet-style crib that is attached to the side of your bed which allows you to reach over and comfort your baby without needing to get out of bed. Some models have an incline feature to relieve reflux.

Remember to only sleep with your child in a crib, bassinet or best bedside cots crib when the mattress is firm and flat to reduce the chance of suffocation.

It's important to note that, while a bassinet can be used in lieu of traditional cots however, Red Nose strongly suggests sleeping your baby in their crib from birth until six months. This is because the risk of SIDS increases when babies are in bed with adults.

Cots are usually safer than bassinets as they have a fixed height that will ensure there is no gap between your baby's bed and the adult bed. They're also usually larger, which means they can be converted into full-size or toddler beds as your baby grows, which could save you money in the long term.

When looking for a new crib for your baby, it's important to consider your budget and the size of your nursery or bedroom when choosing a bedside cot crib. Keep in mind that cot beds tend to be more expensive than bassinets but are a great investment, as they last for a long time and can be used as your child transitions from infanthood to the age of childhood and beyond.

You'll also need a mattress for the crib or cot. The mattress should be firm, flat, and breathable for your baby to get a good sleep and reduce the chance of developing breathing issues or pressure sores. Mattresses used in second-hand stores could increase the risk of SIDS for your child. Look for a brand that is endorsed by the CPSC that adheres to current guidelines. Be careful not to overstuff your crib or use duvets, pillows, bumpers or baby positioners as they could be a suffocation hazard. A firm, breathable mattress for your baby should support the spine. On the internet, you can locate many baby mattresses, ranging from budget-friendly options to luxury brands. If you're unsure, try them out in the store.
