WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The Best item upgrade used to upgrade the Item upgrader kit will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will display an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if those items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific upgrades to the level of an item. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
