How to Replace an Audi Tt Key Fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It's a bit tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, audi Etron Key 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car key cover audi will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.
I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They should be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know both the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these sensors go badly, Audi etron Key you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.
A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially when they're a Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be an option.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for many problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi replacement key cost since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a common feature across the audi tt key case 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
