Robot vacuums and mop are getting more powerful. They pass our cleaning tests, and are able to handle a variety of floors. Find models that allow you to select from multiple modes, use their charging docks to self-empty and clean up the stairs.

Many of the top models work with smartphones. Check for an app that lets you save maps, create schedules and select cleaning modes.

1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro

The gunmetal and gloss black Omni S1 Pro from Eufy is one of most impressive robot vacuums and mop combinations available. It makes use of lidar to navigate, and create maps of rooms and floors (even multiple levels) and is compatible with the free Eufy Clean application that lets you set schedules and alter the behavior of the S1.

When I tried the S1, it was able to locate our downstairs, which is home to laminate flooring in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, along with carpeting of medium-pile as well as a large area rug. It was able to drive close to walls and even over raised thresholds without any problems. However it was a bit difficult getting down the stairs in one pass. The S1 also did an excellent job of cleaning hard floors by dragging its mop smoothly on the flat side against the floor and lifting itself when it reached carpet or rugs.

The docking station of the S1 automatically empties its dust bin and refills its water tank onboard with clean, ozonated water before each mopping session. The dock also provides an extra-deep cleaning solution to the water. Like all 2-in-1 robots the S1 requires regular maintenance to ensure that it's operating well. To do this, you'll need to wash the dirty water tank occasionally to prevent it from clogging. It is also necessary to clean the swivel wheel and sensors regularly to keep them from getting clogged by dust or dirt. Overall, the S1 requires less maintenance than other combos.

2. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Complete

Ecovacs' all-in-one robotic vacuum and mop provides an effective solution to your cleaning needs. Its robot vacuum boasts 8,700Pa of suction, and comes with a number of unique features, including full home mapping, voice control and smart path-planning to avoid obstructions and cleans furniture. The mopping feature is remarkable, with mops rotating that actually lift and scrub the floor, as opposed to just moving the pad across it. Its navigation capabilities are quite good robot vacuum, though it could get stuck on small mats and rugs around my home (which you can mitigate by creating virtual boundaries within the app). Its mopping is quite excellent, too, with a pair of spin mop heads that actually lift and scrub the floors, instead of just dragging the pad over it. The mops can be cleaned with heated water, and dried in the base station when required. The mops are also refilled from the top of the base station when required.

3. Dreame X40 Ultra

Dreame's X30 Ultra robot cleaner with mop vacuum and mop were released earlier in the year. But their new flagship model is packed with impressive features. It is a great cleaner and is simple to maintain. This makes it a contender for our top list of robot vacuums and mop. Its superior mapping capabilities, RGB AI smart detection and an extended side brush ensure that an effective, customized cleaning is completed.

The X40 Ultra vacuums well, removing both fine and large debris. It works equally well on hard floors and carpets. It also cleaned our test's most filthy areas well, and avoiding tangled pet hairs and other mess. The sweeping power of the machine is boosted by a sidebrush which automatically moves out to reach hard-to-reach areas, and a mop pad that extends across baseboards.

Its navigation is intelligent, navigating small spaces and negotiating stairways without skipping a step. It can go from one room to another without having to change direction. This is beneficial for homes that have multiple rooms. Its obstacle avoidance system is less advanced than some competitors however, and tends to leave a thick distance around obstacles, which can result in missed spots.

The interface of the app is simple and easy to use. It should be simple to use for both novices and experienced users. The app allows you to plan and manage cleanings, alter suction power and mopping settings as well as view 3D and 2D maps, and more. You can control it via the app, Alexa or Google Assistant.
