It can be set to only mop and we were impressed by its excellent navigation on carpets and floors and its ability to climb over and up onto furniture. The Combo i5 has a long time to run and excellent path planning for the size of the device.

If you're looking for a high-tech vacuum, the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop is a great alternative. It has a large charging dock that can go several weeks without having to be empty, and it has impressive navigation skills and auto-emptying on both carpets and floors that are not cleaned. It's also got a smart-mapping feature and can be programmed to only operate during certain hours of the day (a useful feature that can keep mischievous kids and dextrous pets from causing havoc). The Shark has less suction power than some other robot vacuum/mop combos, but its still very good at picking up hair and pet hair. It is the best value of our top choices.

Ideal for Hard Floors

Robot vacuums are the best auto vacuum pick for hardwood floors because they are able to maneuver around obstacles and not damage the floor's surface. They are great for removing dust and crumbs, but struggle with pet hair or larger debris. They don't have the suction power of a high-end upright or canister vacuum, so they're not the best choice for carpeted areas or upholstery that needs deep cleaning.

The most effective two-in-one robots incorporate mopping and vacuum and take care of a more complete chore in one go. Choose a model that has an onboard sensor to detect changes in the floor's texture and adjust suction accordingly. Its sensors help it avoid stairs and other hazards so you don't have to be worried about the robot falling down the stairs and damaging your hardwood.
