World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to increase the gear score of an item upgrade up to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For example the perfect roll breakpoint armor is used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade, and aren't worth it.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit chance and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also come with an unchanging bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. In addition, many weapons have a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon is present on a unit. This bonus can sometimes exceed the damage that a weapon upgrade can do on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity and current level. For instance an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will increase until it requires an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.

Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. While this is usually beneficial, it can have some negative consequences too. For items that are only used in a specific build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example) upgrading them can make them unusable unless you happen to have an extremely lucky roll.

Armor items can be upgraded to boost their performance. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms it will boost its defense base while a belt and gloves will improve their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it can sometimes roll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will gain when upgraded, along with their relative values. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% does not mean that it will hit for 3 times less often, since it is an absolute statistic.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button in the item menu using the arrows that are circling. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats, but it will not reset the weapon's level or bind it to account status.

Armor

A few armor upgrades can make all the difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets offer massive improvements in the resistance to poison, curses, fire, and magic. This makes it easier to navigate difficult areas. The more defense your character is, the more value you will get from every point of health, so it's important to upgrade your armor as much as you can.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a unique side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. After you've completed the main side quest and have completed the corresponding fountain you'll be able to contact any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.

The amount of materials required to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade your first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, as an example, can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which allows you to stay ahead in frigid conditions with a large group of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other is able to be upgraded as high as +20 defense to ensure you're able to withstand a rout with friends.

You can't upgrade armor like weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical power or spell power. In addition to armor, weapons and potions, players can upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Trinkets, unlike other items that can be upgraded, can be traded at will without losing stats.

The upgrade vendors are found in major cities and the capital of each zone, as well as in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are purchased using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.

Upgrades to trinkets are an economical alternative to buying an entirely new one. It can be done by a player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as old one, and will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.

Once the old Trinkets are no longer useful, they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase both their power and value with time. They can be traded among players and are a viable alternative to gold.
