Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They provide an attribute benefit, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, found in loot, thrown away by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type limitation. Infusions are gems that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, however they cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix to the end of the names of items. For example, adding the suffix Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces glyphs with another glyph the previous one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, with the exception of inscribed glyphs that can be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from the previous versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a set number of times before being "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials needed do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few items and maximize the impact of these items, rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This will allow the item to receive upgraded components, and have a greater chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Power and it will reset to zero after failure or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece is upgraded to its highest level, it can receive an affix to increase its capabilities. The amount of affixes available is determined by the item's class. If an item upgrader kit does not reach its max level The NPC will offer the player the option to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of material, though it will have a lower chance of success.

Rerolling
