World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will increase 3percent of its previous damage every time it is upgraded.

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to achieve the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or item upgrader defense attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what can be improved upon the reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it's possible that the item will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate the chance of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible up to 15 levels.

You will often find in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the most effective method to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and offer a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced by using the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that it can improve a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs and there are some rare Glyphs that can be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus which will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Glyphs increase the number of nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes, however, you may also want to consider placing them near critical damage nodes, too.

Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to boost the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to level up the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player upgrades a piece of equipment it is replaced by the new item. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can increase in price even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with an initial level and a different set of bonus bonuses. This can be beneficial but it should not be repeated often since it can be a waste of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants buffs when the player repeatedly enters or item upgrader leaves the water. The item can be upgraded several times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item can be very useful in PvP battles, since the best version of it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value without being upgraded.

Requirements

The upgrade of items allows players to increase the quality of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader (see this site) NPC. Upgrading armor set pieces will also boost the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to go to its initial state, which will force the user to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any gained bonuses such as crit chance, attack damage, and all additional effects associated with the effect (for example, increased heal over time or speed of reload). The player is able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item upgrades is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that, if a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a brand new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and number of upgrade item slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items will have a much lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items might require different upgrades than standard gear. For instance they might require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. Regardless, the player will need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade will require a different amount of the ingredients needed to upgrade.
