WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The Item Level Upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item upgrading from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an item's preview at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item upgrader mod and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade items system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even when they are part of another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for item level upgrade items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
