Choosing a large bedside crib bedside crib vs cot Cot

Bedside cots (also called Co sleeper bedside cot-sleepers or bassinets) are designed to let parents sleep close to their baby at night without fear of SIDS. They are only recommended up to 6 months, when your baby is ready to move to a crib.

Size

Cots and cot beds differ in size, with cots being smaller than beds for cots. They can also be converted into toddler beds, whereas cot beds are generally only used up to three years old. There are two sizes of wooden cots - big and standard that can be converted into a toddler bed or a cot. If you want your child (or children) to be able to sleep in the larger cot, it's a great option to select the larger size.

She says it's easy to lift her baby in and out for feeding or soothing and that the quality is great when compared to other cots she's seen that are flimsy.

It also has an incline for reflux and a machine washable breathable liner. And it was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby awards for the Best Cot Crib, Crib or Moses Basket. Height

When you are choosing a crib that is bedside, choose one that can be adjusted to a suitable height for you. It must also be lower away from the way, so you can lift up your baby to feed them at night or to soothe him. This feature is particularly helpful when you are recovering from a C section. The Next2me cot and Tutti Bambini can be adjusted to the maximum height of 58cm, while the Snuzpod 3 can go up to 63cm and the Knuma Hutch up to 70cm.

Another thing to think about is how low you want the base of your cot to be. While some moms find it easier to lift their babies out of traditional Moses baskets at the lowest level, some mothers prefer a higher base to give them more stability. The Joie Roomie Glide is a popular choice with one of our mom testers saying that it comes with a simple collapsible side that is easy to push down with the click of a button.

Keep in mind that a bassinet or bedside sleeping device is only suitable when your baby can hold his head up without assistance, Co sleeper bedside cot which is typically at around 6 months. This makes it ideal for new mums who are recovering from Caesareans or who require a bed for longer periods of time. MFM mum home tester Jasmine loved this feature, saying that it was simple to use and made her baby much more manageable particularly after her c-section.

Chicco Next2me Magic is another alternative. It won Gold in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards as the best Cot, Moses Basket or Crib. It has a machine-washable liner, reflux incline, and rocking feature. It's slightly larger than other cribs that we've tested but it folds flat in its bag for travel, so it's relatively compact when not in use.

Leya, MFM mum home tester, also praised the bedside crib's functionality. She claimed that it was designed for both parents and babies. It has a great design that is extremely easy to manoeuvre and it is extremely sturdy. Its swivelling base is brilliant as it means you can move the bassinet from side-to-side and one of its sides can be lowered down to facilitate access - particularly for new mums who are recovering from C-sections', she said.

Safety

The most important safety feature of a large bedside crib that turns into cot cot is that it is able to be raised or lowered to enable parents to reach their baby when they require to feed them, comfort them, or change their nappies. This is ideal for new mothers recovering from the C-section. You should choose the design that allows you to lower the sides of the bed by pressing a button. The NPR of the CPSC NPR includes 24 incidents that are attributed to issues with the product like gaps between a bedside sleeper (adult bed) and the bedside sleeper (12 incidents), fabric-sided enclosed openings (11) and consumer misassembly (6 incidents).

In its NPR the CPSC considered the possibility of adding more requirements to bedside sleepers. For instance the products would need to meet the minimum height requirements for bassinets or at the very least, the maximum height requirements for the lowered rail. The CPSC found, however that these requirements were not efficient or effective in reducing the amount of instances where infants are entrapped by a bedside rail and an adult bed.

A majority of the incidents mentioned in the NPR focused on multi-use bedside sleepers that can be transformed into different types of furniture, like bassinets or play yards. Several commenters suggested the CPSC add an alternative provision to the proposed rule for multi-use bedside sleepers which would permit them to meet minimum side height requirements for bassinets by using a removable attachment. The attachment can be permanently fixed or removed when the item is not being used as a baby bassinet.

The CPSC is currently examining these and other comments received in response to its NPR on sleepers who are bedside. The Commission will take into consideration these comments when deciding on the final rule, which is expected to be issued in November of 2021.
