WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will display an item upgrading's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item level upgrade and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
