Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will take place during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or by phone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will recommend titrating dosage to ensure the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process may take several weeks, and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the proper balance is reached. It's not uncommon to have to titrate three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. If you decide to return to NHS treatment the medication you take will be provided with an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You will need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed you will be able to make appointment with your psychiatrist, if necessary. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any charges for medication.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be having or other mental health problems that you might be experiencing. Medication

For many who wish to obtain a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a key part of their journey. It isn't always easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means you can select an organization that offers a private assessment and titration service. This will cut down your waiting time significantly and is more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will examine you and decide whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are reasons that suggest you shouldn't take ADHD medication, even when they've been prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, it will typically include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly assessed and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration adhd medication procedure can be a lengthy process and may require several extra appointments before you are stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication you're taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are on the right medication, noting any adverse effects you've experienced, and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You'll also have to attend a regular health check, which could include blood pressure, pulse and weight readings as well as an annual check-up.
