However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaners best we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and Best Robot Hoover integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. 5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance.
