A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of manual hoovering. Choose one that has good navigation, can clean corners and stairs, and has a large dust bin that requires emptying only every few times.

You can also find models that clean and charge themselves, a feature that may be important for people with children or pets. A majority of the top performers in our tests have great obstacles to avoid.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. The i3+ is a good alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot once it gets full.

Both robots are adept at removing surface dirt on floors and carpets and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we test, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and may have issues traversing transitions across surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it will return to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot floor cleaner vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or by voice.

In our tests the i7+ was more agile and faster than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the best cheap robot vacuum to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size but not long enough to get every single spot (though a second run-through usually will suffice). That's not to say this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's a good option for those who don't wish to spend too much money on a robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area many times for a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our Top Rated Robot vacuum picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. 5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top manufacturers of cheap robot vacuum vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to comprehend and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing.
