French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Combining form and functionality, French-door refrigerators have elegant double doors that open to an expansive fridge on the top and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out because of their unique features, such as door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.

We asked experts like Ladina Schopf, interior designer architect, founder, and co-founder of LS Projects, for tips on picking the right one. They evaluated the capacity of storage, layout, energy efficiency, and other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is aimed at consumers who want to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. This refrigerator has it all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs an extra amount, I'd like to see higher quality.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a fair amount of frozen food in comparison to similar models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on par for a french door kenmore fridge door refrigerator that costs this much. It comes with a decent size refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. But, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a customized storage layout for what you want to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. The LED lighting is a nice addition and the storage bins feature the third shelf, which folds up beneath itself to allow you to store large items. The drawers have temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the all the features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from any place across the globe. It also offers a lot of customization options. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the freezer or fridge requires defrosting, and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill which is a feature available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allow users to choose the amount of cups they wish to pour out. It also has a countdown feature on the fridge display to display how much water you have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear like a seamless piece of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher longer and has dual compressors for maximum preservation of food. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes an ice pyramid with only a little water. This fridge is ideal for a single family or kitchenette that needs an elegant design and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for various reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is essential to avoid freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and maintained that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its top-quality appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth fridge can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. The app lets you monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is costly, but offers great features and functions at a reasonable cost.

It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a limited space for shelves, so you may have to think creatively when storing tall objects. Additionally, the shelves are not sprillproof and can be easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. It's easy to remove the trays in the fridge however, you must clean them frequently to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who require plenty of space in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

One of the best things about this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer ice into the fridge for use when needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of items. It has a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can manage the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's an easy way to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, especially when not at home.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill food in this refrigerator as compared to other fridges we tested. This is likely due to its bigger capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken at the front, which allows shorter people to easily open them from the bottom, however they're still difficult for taller people to guide closed without slamming the doors. It would have been more effective if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those looking to blend the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is higher than average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the best counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire kenwood french door fridge freezer door refrigerator is a good choice for those looking for a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It has a simple design that's not as striking in appearance as some of the competition but it does have enough features to make it a good choice. Its most important feature is the temperature adjustable drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. The drawer allows you to divert some of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, meaning you can store foods that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted using an outside slider that is located inside the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

During my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly consistent across all areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ much from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance, but it isn't quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer to get more precise measurements of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
