WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item upgrader mod will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with an button, which displays a preview of the item upgrades at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrading. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, Item Level Upgrade or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item level upgrade (Recommended Studying) has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The upgrade items discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly true for items like rings and item Level upgrade trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
