The ability to upgrade items (https://telegra.Ph/) allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes, boosting its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is being used. In the case of upgrades for gathering tools If a player replaces one glyph with another the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which are able to be swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in some fundamental ways. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can only be upgraded a set number of times before they are "leveled out." The cost of upgrading is increased with each level however the materials required don't increase as much. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the effect of these items, instead of dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

If an item upgrade doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC grants the player the choice to transfer it to a new character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take between one and two hours and will cost the same amount of material. However it has a lower chance of success.
