WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major item level Upgrade city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item Level upgrade however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade item discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a drawback.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
