New Yorkers banded together to capture a runaway Chihuahua named Bean from the Staten Island Expressway in a dramatic rescue caught on video.
Katie Marie, an Arden Heights resident, shared the footage from her dash cam Wednesday night in a desperate bid to find the owner.
The video showed her car rolling to a halt on the side of the highway as the little dog emerged and scampered down the dark road, nearly veering into traffic and prompting a silver SUV to slow down.
The Chihuahua skirted a vehicle that had stopped up ahead in an attempt to cut him off. A woman got out of her car and began chasing him on foot. Several other motorists exited their vehicles to help.
A second car tried to block the dog once again. This time, the motorists were able to corner him underneath the vehicle and lift him to safety.

'I saw over 20 cars that were all types of chihuahua dogs helping, which was extremely wholesome to see how many Staten Islanders came together as a community on a busy highway, to help one dog with an aimless destination,' Marie told Staten Island Live.
'If it wasn't for everyone there, it would have been a very different outcome.'
The person to rescue Bean was Kaitlyn McGinley, a nurse at Staten Island Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
McGinley told the publication she was on her way home from Brooklyn when she saw several cars braking and a woman following the dog down the highway.
'I see this lady running and I'm like, "Why is there a woman running on the expressway right now? What the hell is going on?"' McGinley said.
'Then I saw the Chihuahua and I was like, oh, my God. My heart broke because I'm a dog mom, so I was like, whose animal is this? That's so sad.'
The nurse pulled over to the side of the road and Bean scampered under her vehicle. She was ultimately able to trap him in a bag provided by another driver.
After the dog was secure in her car, McGinley reached out to her husband, Harrison Ferber, as well as her local veterinarian.

'He finally sat down and relaxed, and I don't know, it was just wild. Did not expect that to happen coming home,' McGinley said.
Her veterinarian directed her to Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services, who determined the dog did not have a microchip.
These tiny chips, which are inserted under an animal's skin, are typically scanned and matched to an owner's contact details, presenting another challenge.
However, Ferber was undeterred. He posted a photo of Bean to a Facebook page dedicated to Staten Island residents.
'Within minutes,' he said, the post received several responses, including information about the owner.
Bean was identified thanks to a telltale missing patch of hair above his right eyebrow. He was returned 'within the hour after getting saved,' Ferber said.
Stapleton resident Tee Richardson, Bean's owner, expressed her gratitude and promptly ordered an AirTag for his collar.
She claimed Bean ran away when he was spooked by a barking pit bull. After he was returned, she made her own post to Facebook: a photo of the tiny pup with his paws crossed, captioned 'Meet the famous Bean!'
But Richardson also had some choice words for people who continued to circulate the footage of her dog's escape.
'I'm so f***ing sick of it, like yes, I'm very grateful to each and everyone who helped bring him back to me - my God, bless them for life - but I'm really sick to my stomach seeing this video and people with their stupid comments not knowing the story,' she said.
